TRIADS Presents "Promises and Challenges of Prediction in Psychology" with Dr. Emorie D. Beck
A longstanding goal of psychology is to predict or forecast the things people do and feel. However, tools to accurately predict future behaviors and experiences as well as long-term outcomes have remained elusive. This talk will highlight the promise of prediction research at scale for solving global health problems as well as the challenges of translating it into policy and intervention. Dr. Emorie Beck will showcase how to synthesize heterogeneous, cross-national data sources to capture predictors of long-term outcomes (e.g., mortality, dementia) and introduce a framework for personalized prediction that leverages rich time series data to allow for individual-level modeling and inferences, while still providing opportunities for population-level inference via bottom-up integration.
Join us after for a reception with hors d'oeuvres, networking, and a data visualization showcase.
Dr. Beck will also lead a two-part data visualization workshop in the TRIADS Collaboration Space
