Elementary Education Major
As an elementary teacher education major, you will be prepared for a teaching career in an elementary school setting, specifically grades 1-6. The program requires course work in two areas: professional education and a second academic major. As a senior, you will take part in an integrated professional semester of interrelated courses and teaching experiences in a local school.

A review of mathematics for grades K-8, at a level beyond its usual presentation in the schools. Purpose of the course is to insure teaches have the necessary foundation to teach mathematical concepts and problem solving at the elementary level. Applications of all essential mathematical concepts are presented in abundance along with methods and strategies for instruction at the elementary level.
Examines education within the context of American social and intellectual history. Using a broad conception of education in the United States and a variety of readings in American culture and social history, the course focuses on such themes as the variety of institutions involved with education, including family, church, community, work place, and cultural agency; the ways relationships among those institutions have changed over time; the means individuals have used to acquire an education; and the values, ideas, and practices that have shaped American educational policy in different periods of our history.
