Spanish Major
As a Spanish major, you will study some of the most important literary works and cultures in the Spanish-speaking world, while honing your language skills to fluency. Throughout your studies, you will explore key themes such as gender roles, cultural traditions, community dynamics, and individual freedom -- topics that are critically relevant in today’s world. The Spanish major is offered through the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.

Students in this course will have the opportunity to study the legends, literary masterpieces, films, documentaries, songs, and artistic and culinary traditions surrounding the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage road. The approach will be an imaginary journey from the little town of Roncesvalles in the Pyrenees to the Galician city of Santiago de Compostela, passing through such places of historical importance as the city of Burgos and the monasteries of Santo Domingo de Silos and San Millán de la Cogolla.
In this course, students explore Latin America through the lives of its people. The class makes use of various cultural objects and media, including film, literature, music, and social media, to approach the extraordinary yet everyday struggles of Latin Americans in cities and rural areas.
