Saturday Science Lecture with Lee Sobotka on Oppie – the Los Alamos Years: nuclear science and a weapons primer at 10:00am

Starting on Saturday, October 28th, the WashU Physics Department will be hosting a Saturday Science Lecture Series on Oppenheimer's science. We will cover the crucial physics of the war years: fission and fusion; how and why the natural isotopes of Uranium  235U and 238U differ; how the produced Plutonium isotopes  239Pu and 240Pu are made, and how and why they differ. We will also discuss the  German nuclear effort and the Allied Alsos mission.
