A minor in Russian Language and Literature allows you to achieve a high level of proficiency in the Russian language and study Russian literature. The program offers elementary through third year language courses and a number of courses on 19th and 20th-century Russian literature (in translation) on a wide variety of topics. You are strongly encouraged to study abroad.
Requirements
For a minor in Russian Language and Literature, you are required to complete 20 graded credits of coursework. The prerequisite is Elementary Russian (RUSSIAN 1501 and RUSSIAN 1502) or the equivalent.
- 8 credits must be Intermediate Russian (RUSSIAN 2501, 2502)
- 6 credits must be Third-Year Russian (RUSSIAN 3501, 3502)
- 3 credits must be a 3000 or 4000 level course in Russian literature
- The final 3 credits may be from either another Russian literature course or a Russian subject course taught in such departments as History or Political Science.
Regulations
- You can earn up to 6 credits from a semester or summer study abroad program, with the approval of the Russian Language and Literature minor advisor.
- All advanced credits must be unique to the Russian Language and Literature minor (i.e. not counted towards any other major or minor).
- You must earn at least a B- or above in language courses in order to continue to the next level. You must also maintain at least a B- average in all courses taken to fulfill the minor requirements. If you do not meet this requirement, you may either repeat the course(s) in question or earn at least a B- in an approved equivalent course or courses (either during the summer or in a study abroad program).
