A minor in Russian Language and Literature allows you to achieve a high level of proficiency in the Russian language and study Russian literature. The program offers elementary through third year language courses and a number of courses on 19th and 20th-century Russian literature (in translation) on a wide variety of topics. You are strongly encouraged to study abroad.
Requirements
For a minor in Russian Language and Literature, you are required to complete 20 graded credits of coursework. The prerequisite is Elementary Russian (L39 Russ 101 and L39 Russ 102) or the equivalent.
- 8 credits must be Intermediate Russian (211D, 212D)
- 6 credits must be Third-Year Russian (322D, 324D)
- 3 credits must be a 300 or 400 level course in Russian literature
- The final 3 credits may be from either another Russian literature course or a Russian subject course taught in such departments as History or Political Science.
Regulations
- You can earn up to 6 credits from a semester or summer study abroad program, with the approval of the Russian Language and Literature minor advisor.
- All advanced credits must be unique to the Russian Language and Literature minor (i.e. not counted towards any other major or minor).
- You must earn at least a B- or above in language courses in order to continue to the next level. You must also maintain at least a B- average in all courses taken to fulfill the minor requirements. If you do not meet this requirement, you may either repeat the course(s) in question or earn at least a B- in an approved equivalent course or courses (either during the summer or in a study abroad program).
