Sarah Hennessey

Academic Advisor, College of Arts & Sciences
Sarah Hennessey

As Academic Advisor, Sarah is deeply committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where advisees feel seen, heard, and encouraged to explore their academic and personal goals. Drawing on her own experience as someone with ADHD and autism (AuDHD), Sarah is also dedicated to supporting neurodivergent individuals and advocating for a campus community where everyone can thrive with equitable access to resources. She values building meaningful relationships with her advisees, learning about their interests and aspirations, connecting them with opportunities that fit their goals, and helping them recognize and build upon their unique strengths and accomplishments. Also a member of the College of Arts & Sciences Student Progress and Academic Success team, Sarah is especially committed to helping struggling students navigate academic difficulty. She is also a pre-health advisor and enjoys strategizing the path to medical school with her advisees.

Sarah has a bachelor's degree in art history with a minor in German from Truman State University and a master's degree in writing studies from Saint Joseph’s University. A St. Louis native, she has been with WashU since 2009. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys thrifting, hand embroidery, hopping from one crafty hyper-fixation/project to the next, rescuing and rehabbing furniture, going on walks with her golden retriever, traveling with her family, and reading (especially via audiobooks, which totally count).
